Four Portable Roof Anchors

LADDER RIDGE ANCHOR

Installers of Metal Roofs are the main purchasers of this product, because it helps a contractor work on material that can be easily damaged.  It facilitates the vertical movement of a ladder when working the valley of a roof or working past a chimney, air conditioner, solar panels, etc.

The tool is placed on the ridge of the roof, and a ladder rung is then set in to the hooks/recepticle of the Ladder Ridge Anchor.  The hooks may be latched against the ladder rung or not latched.  The ladder may be moved vertically, when needed, by moving the ladder rung by rung effectively shortening or lengthening the bottom of the ladder. Minimal assembly.  See accessories which are add-on tools (sold separate) that expand the usefulness of the tool.

The Portable Tether is a ladder safety tool that attaches to the top rungs of a ladder with U-bolts (provided), and stores on the ladder until needed.  It serves as a Ladder Roof Anchor and can be used to hold the ladder on any pitch roof (see operation of how it and the smaller Ladder Roof Anchor operate).  It weighs approximately 6#. Some assembly required. Designed for work primarily on flat roof surfaces. It accomodates work on metal or clay tile roofs with the use of accessories which are add-on tools that expand the usefulness of the roof anchors.

Steeper roofs present a different challenge to workers, so this product was designed to serve as a fall protection device on roofs with a 12/12 pitch or steeper.  It is to be used only in conjunction with a safety lanyard, soft stop and safety harness using current OSHA guidelines for fall protection when serving as a fall arrest/fall restraint device.

This safety tool meets the Fall Arrest/Fall Restraint Guidelines for the OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration), ANSI (American National Standards Institute), and NFPA (National Fire Protection Agency).  Tests were conducted in September, 2005 by the National Hose Testing Specialities, Inc. (certified to test fireman hose and ladders) in Dallas, Oregon.  The successful tests involved anchoring a ladder with the Portable Tether, securing a safety line to the device, and dropping a 307# weight that was attached to the safety line down a sliding incline (for fall restraint) and off of a roof top (for fall arrest).  The device also sustained 5000# static pressure for 20 minutes (only 1 minute was required by guidelines).

QUICK-RELEASE LADDER ANCHOR
The third Ladder Anchor also suspends your ladder from the pitch of a roof.  It stores on the ladder when not in use, or may be quickly detached to be carried to another job site for use on another ladder.  This anchor may not be used for fall protection.  (See Portable Tether above for fall protection)

"If you really want to invent something useful, invent something that holds the ladder on the roof!"  This plea was from a roofer, who was injured in a fall from the roof, when the common fireman hooks he had on his ladder slipped off of the ridge of the roof.

The Ladder Ridge Anchor, the Portable Tether/Ladder Roof Anchor and the smaller Ladder Roof Anchor are designed to suspend your ladder from the roof line.  These (3) Roof Anchors work on flat surfaces and will replace, in many instances, the (scary) fireman hooks that have been used in construction for years. Accessories (sold separate) aid workers when using on metal, tile or fragile roofing. The Ladder Ridge Anchor is not secured to the ladder, but holds a ladder in place with extending "hooks".  The other two devices attach easily with U-bolts to the top rungs of your ladder.  These two store within the profile of a ladder, until needed. Accessories expand the usefulness of each tool.

To operate the Portable Tether and small Ladder Roof Anchor, a worker estimates the pitch of the roof and presets a "dial" device (see side bar) that adjusts the weight-bearing arm to the pitch of the roof.  A wheel on the Roof Anchor (see next sidebar) allows a person to roll the ladder up to the pitch of the roof.  The ladder is then turned over, and the tool ANCHORS it to the roof top.  This device is designed ONLY to hold the ladder to the apex of a roof and, in some instances, provide a stable work surface.  (A new, stronger tool - the Portable Tether/Ladder Roof Anchor - is designed to serve as a fall arrest/fall restraint device as well as a Ladder Roof Anchor. The Ladder Ridge Anchor works independent of the ladder and is set on the roof line first.  Then the ladder is brought up and set upon the extending hooks.  The hooks may be closed/latched to secure it to the ladder.

Preset the anchor arm by removing the pin, adjusting the dial to the estimated pitch of the roof (5/12 to16/12), and reinserting the pin.  The arm is locked in place, and ready for use.

Roll the ladder to the pitch of the roof on the device wheel.

Made of industrial-strength 6061 T6 (aircraft) aluminum, the Ladder Roof Anchor arm adjusts to any pitch of roof.  The "dialing" device (above) used to preset the locking arm, is made of aluminum. It folds into the profile of the ladder for easy storage, and can be transferred easily to a new ladder when the old ladder is replaced. The tool weighs approx. 4.7#.  Some assembly.

At the pitch, turn the ladder over.

DAN'S ROOFING, Oroville, CA  The Roof Anchor is the best tool for this type of application that I have used in my 35 years in the roofing trade.  I give it a "10" for usability!

Testing:  The ladder Roof Anchor "arm" held 480# with the  arm extended over the rooftop (see photo). OSHA, ANSI and NFPA Guidelines for ladders were used as test criteria.

Anchor the ladder in place. The ladder with Roof Anchor attached can be repositioned as the work area changes.

ROOF ANCHOR CLAY TILE Accessory $24.95 U.S. plus shipping.   CA residents pay CA tax
The accessory attaches to the adjustable "arm" of the Ladder Roof Anchor to enable a person to work on a Clay Tile roof.
It minimizes damage to the tile because the rubber foot/shoe sets in to the valley of the clay tile where it has the most support.

Universal Standing (1 1/2") Seam Foot Accessory  $34.95 U.S. plus shipping. CA residents pay CA tax.

The Universal Standing (1 1/2") Seam Foot accessory (purchased separate) is easily attached to a Ladder Roof Anchor.  It is useful on metal roofs and those with fragile roofing materials to distribute the weight to minimize dents on the metal, cracking or breaking of fragile materials, etc.  It elevates the bar over standing metal seams.  A similar tool is made for the Portable Tether/Ladder Ridge Anchor (see below).
